Bruins Swat The Hornets
1-10-12 by Blair Peterson '12 and Alex Flemister '13, Sports Media
The Lady Bruins (14-5, 4-0) traveled to Maumelle (12-3, 3-1) high school on Tuesday, January 10th, to face the Lady Hornets. The Bruins were
prepared for a tough game from the tip, with Maumelle being known for their athletic offense and aggressive defense. The Bruins led from the
beginning of the game and kept the lead all game long. Although they held on to the lead, it was an extremely close game for a majority of the
time, with a 21-19 score going into half time and a 3-point lead after the 3rd quarter. The ladies pulled away in the 4th quarter, walking away with a
53-38 victory. The team was led by senior Breanna Harris with 25 points. She was followed by sophomore Mackie Kuhn with 11 points and junior
India Wilson with 10.
When talking to Coach Treadway, you can tell that he is very proud of the way the team has been playing so far this season. He said that leading
scorers, Harris and Wilson, have really started to play well together. Wilson has become very comfortable on the court and her assists have given
Harris very high numbers as far as stats go. Senior Deidre Cathey has also started off the season extremely well. Treadway said that she is
constantly pulling down rebounds and recovering loose balls. Treadway strongly believes that she is not given enough credit for her hard work on
the court.
On Friday January 13th, the Lady Bruins will make the long trip to Ashdown to face the Lady Panthers. Senior Maddie Lee said that Ashdown has
the potential to be a very good game. The Lady Panthers already have some conference wins under their belt, so the Lady Bruins are expecting
some good competition.
The Pulaski Academy Bruins (10-0, 4-0) streak continues with another victory over the Maumelle Hornets (10-7, 4-1) at Maumelle with a score of
66- 42. Both teams entered undefeated in conference play at 4-0. Brandon Brady led the charge early in the first quarter making four 3 pointers
which really helped the Bruins gain momentum and pressured the Hornets early on. The two leading scorers for the Bruins were Brandon Brady
with 23 points and Hunter Henry with 16 points.
Defensively, the Bruins dominated in controlling the Hornets offense by keeping their offensive possessions to a minimum. Coach Franks stated,
"The lead at half time was accredited to the defense, they contributed a great deal in regards to preventing excessive offensive possessions and
scores. Overall it was a good win against a good team."
The Bruins will be traveling to Ashdown on Friday, January 13th, and will be performing in Memphis at FedEx Forum on Monday, January 16th.
Tickets can be purchased in the Bruin Sprit Store through Friday afternoon. Check back soon on more stories and updates about the Bruin
Basketball team and their successes in future games.

The Lady Bruins were led again by senior Breanna Harris with 29 points and 11 rebounds on the night. Looking back on the game, assistant coach

Nashville was going to be.” Wood says they “were a little on edge in the 4th quarter when their lead was cut down to only 2 points”, but the Bruins
did what they do best and pulled off a big victory.

by Matt Riley '12 and Jalen Seals '13, edited by Daniel Vogel '13
Pulaski Academy hosted Jacksonville's junior high basketball teams Monday night in a River City Conference matchup. The Bruins made a clean
sweep as the 7th grade girls, junior high girls, and junior high boys all won.
The girls' team won 39-15 in last night's matchup against Jacksonville. The Bruins allowed no more than nine points in a half, and didn't even allow
Jacksonville a point in the third quarter. Only one girl on the Jacksonville team scored more than one basket. This strong defensive effort helped
the Bruins earn themselves an easy win. Joy Porter led the Bruins' offense with 14 points and was aided by Bailey Byrne, who had 10 points
including two baskets from outside the arc.
The Bruins jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the first quarter over the Red Devils. PA would extend their lead to 19-12 to head into the locker room at the

Bruin Teams Quiet Senators
1-24-12 by Blair Peterson '12, Sports Media
The Bruin senior basketball teams traveled to Robinson High school Tuesday evening to face the Senators. The Bruins already defeated Robinson
earlier this season, but both the boys’ and girls’ teams have been playing better since the first matchup.
In the girls game, the first quarter was close, with the Lady Bruins leading only 11-8. Their lead increased by the time half rolled around, up 28-20.
The Bruins increased their lead by 14 by the end of the third before winning going away, 58-34.
Senior Jordan Hughes and sophomore Mackie Kuhn had a combined 29 points, 21 of those points coming from beyond the arc. Head coach Rick
Treadway said that the girls played a little “sluggish” but solidified their win after their 18-2 run at the end of the third quarter and into the 4th.
Looking to the end of the week, Treadway says that their game this Friday is huge. The Girls will go to Malvern to play the Lady Leopards. The
Bruins are currently leading Malvern by one game in conference play, and a win against them would give them a 2 game cushion with just 5 games
left to play.
The boys also faced the Robinson Senators that evening leaving the gym in a similar situation. They departed with a big win, adding to their
undefeated conference record. The margin of victory was large, with the scoreboard favoring the Bruins 75-33.
The team was led by junior Brandon Brady with 25, several of those points coming from beyond the arc. He was followed by junior Hunter Henry
with 15 points on the night.
The Bruins look to remain undefeated in conference play as they travel to Malvern on Friday.

The Lady Bruins pulled off a thrilling win after 32 minutes of action packed play. The girls were prepared for the Lady Leopards to come out with
fire, and they were more than ready to react. The Bruins had a small lead after the first quarter, up by only 3. By the time half rolled around, their
lead had increased to 6 points and the girls led 24-18. The game remained close in the second half, with the Bruins still leading by 6 heading into
the 4th quarter. The final quarter went back and forth, with Malvern cutting the Bruin’s lead to only a few points in the final minutes of play. The
Bruins sank some key free throws to hold on to the lead and walk away with a one-point victory, 46-45. The Lady Bruins were led by Senior
Breanna Harris with 12 points on the night.
Coach Treadway said that it was huge win for the Lady Bruins in a crazy environment. “They had to battle through several tough situations” said
Treadway, who also said that their final free throws were key.
Other key players were seniors Jordan Hughes and Deidre Cathey, who had stellar defensive performances. Sophomore Mackie Kuhn and

The girls had a little tougher time with the Scrappers as Nashville actually took a
one-point lead in the third quarter. The Lady Bruins would bounce back without the aid
of senior point guard, Jordan Hughes, as she had to leave in the third with an ankle
injury. PA would get 16 points from Scarlett McCracken and India Wilson as they went
on to defeat the Lady Scrappers, 58-49.
Both teams are back in action tonight for homecoming as they host the DeQueen

Junior Bruins To Play In Conference Tournament
The Bruins wrapped up their regular season with a non-conference win at North Pulaski on Thursday. The Bruins finished fourth in conference with a record of 6-4
and a final record of 8-7. The Bruins were not expected to do well this season, but have exceeded expectations according to head coach Brad Wood as he is
pleased with the progress they have made heading into the conference tournament on Saturday. Lawson Korita and Will Hefley were the seasons leading scorers.
Coach Wood says that Will Hefley likely set a record for most 3-pointers in a game with an outstanding 9 threes made by him.
The Bruins play in the district tournament this Saturday at Watson Chapel at 1:30, and the Bruins will be facing the host team in the first round. The Bruins
defeated Watson chapel the first time 50-41. Coach Wood said “It will be tough to beat them twice especially being at their gym. He also stated that “We should
match up well against them. We just have to beat the press and make our shots, and if we do that, we will win the game.” If the Bruins win, they will have to face
the top seeded Maumelle Hornets (10-0) in the semifinals on Thursday.
The junior high girls are also in action this Saturday as they earned the third seed in the River City Conference Tournament with a 7-2 record in conference play and
a 9-4 record overall. They will face Central Arkansas Christian at 3 p.m. at Watson Chapel. The junior girls have played CAC twice this season and were able to
come out with a victory in both games. Coach Catherine Wood has been impressed with the girls play throughout the season and stated that they have fulfilled her
expectations this year. Coach Wood has also been impressed by the play of her 8th graders, who have had to step up with just two 9th grade girls on the roster.
The junior high girls look to build on their 9-4 overall and 7-2 conference record this Saturday in the conference tournament.

2-10-12 by Andrew Ransom ’15 and Dixon Land ’12, Sports Media
Both senior girls and boys picked up two wins this week hosting Ashdown for senior
night on Tuesday and traveling to Bauxite on Thursday. This completes conference
play with a 14-0 record for both teams.
The Pulaski Academy girls won their game on Tuesday night 75-21 against Ashdown
before defeating Bauxite on Thursday, 57-49.
Coach Treadway stated that Bauxite was the much more difficult team. He also said
“It’s not that we played bad, they just played really good.”
The Senior High girls are going into the tournament next week as first seed and will be
playing Thursday night in Malvern. Coach Treadway also said about the Tournament
“we lose and we pack up and I don’t think our girls are quite ready to pack up.”
The senior boys defeated both Ashdown and Bauxite by double digits. The Bruins are 20-1 this season, losing only to Briarcrest Christian Academy in Memphis. In
state, the Bruins are 20-0, with their biggest wins over Sylvan Hills, Beebe, and Harding Academy.
Tuesday, the Bruins took down Ashdown 86-50. Dusty Hannahs led the team in scoring with 16 points. The Bruins led 49-24 at halftime when Coach Franks put in
the reserves. Last night, the Bruins took on Bauxite and led by 35 at halftime. They won 76-42.
This next Thursday, the Bruins will start the Conference tournament with the top seed in the tournament. The games will be held at Malvern High School. “We have
to keep playing well from the outside, “ said Coach Roger Franks, “Brandon [Brady] and Dusty [Hannahs] have to continue to make those 3 point shots as
consistently as they are now.”
Another important aspect to Coach Franks’ technique going into the Conference tournament is his preparation. “We’ve beaten each of these teams twice and
they’re going to try something new. We have to prepare for anything and everything.”

Bruins Start Season 8-0, Conf. Play Resumes Friday
1-4-12 by Alex Flemister '13, Sports Media
With basketball season in full swing, Head Coach Roger Franks along with Assistant
Coach Brad Wood lead the Bruins with a 8-0 record as they continue to strive for a
perfect season. Coach Franks feels that this group of men set standards above the
average team. "They persistently represent the team and school well in academics and
leadership throughout the community," stated Franks.
At the beginning of the season, a major portion of the team united after the Bruins
defeated Malvern for the 2011 4A Football State Championship. Seniors Jeremy Brady
and Jack Snider, junior Hunter Henry and sophomores Tristan Fowler, Chase Snider,
and Tyler Colquitt all took part in the Bruins' victory on Saturday, December 10. This
group only had three complete days to prepare for the season while other schools
across the state had weeks if not months. This shows the ability and work ethic from
both players and coaches in their ability to strive for perfection. Coach Franks stated,
"We were limited on time, but these guys aren't your average high school students,
they strive for the best."
On Saturday December 17th, the Bruins took on Sylvan Hills with a victory of 82-72. Senior Dusty Hannahs, who has committed to Texas Tech, was the leading
scorer of the game with 43 points. Sylvan Hills player Archie Goodwin, who signed with Kentucky and is the number one prospect in the state, seemed to have no
affect on Bruins, who were able to shut down Goodwin in the first half. Junior Brandon Brady plays many key roles in the success of the Bruins. Coach Franks
says, "Brandon has really stepped into position, he is a key player and makes plays."
Last weekend the Bruins traveled to Beebe for the First Security Tournament and beat Beebe in the finals, 50-41. Although the Bruins came out victorious,
Hannahs was injured during play and sat out for the remainder of the game. Test results have shown a fractured right wrist, so Hannahs will be out four to six
weeks.
On Tuesday night, the Bruins defeated Batesville, 62-29, playing without Hannahs and returning All-State power forward, Hunter Henry. The Bruins started three
sophomores, a junior, and a senior.
PA are on the road towards a great season and need the PA community to continue to support their goal. Coach Franks stated, "We couldn't do it without our fans
and especially our student section. We probably have the best one in the state. If they don't get you fired up, I don't know who will. They truly help out a great
deal."
Please check back for more updates on Bruin Basketball and other Bruin sports through the PA website and PA's new athletic website at www.pabruinsports.com.
2012 Wrestling Preview
1-13-12
The 2012 wrestling is getting off to a good start. They faced North Little Rock and Glen Rose at Glen Rose on Thursday, January 5th. The Bruins
has some young talent this year with lots of potential. Will James, Tyler Moore, Maaz Ahmad, Hunter Paddie, Bryce Griffin, Be'lee McNeil,
Christian Ingram, and Brandon Leding are your wrestlers this year.
Will James, who is in 285 pound weight class, placed third last year in the state finals pinned both of his opponents. Tyler Moore, who placed 4th
in state last year in the 113 pound weight class, and Hunter Paddie, also pinned both of their opponents. First year wrestler Be'lee McNeil pinned
all three of his opponents while first year wrestlers Bryce Griffin and Christian Ingram both one match.
Coach Bruce Dickey is working hard to promote wrestling at Pulaski Academy. Although he needs current high school wrestlers to fill out his
weight classes, he is working in the PE classes in the middle school to promote wrestling at a young age in hopes to build a love for wrestling that
will in turn make Pulaski Academy a force in the state in high school wrestling.

ready."

team...gotten better defensively…starting to learn their roles," Treadway said. "The unity on the team is really good. They are very unselfish, and
they don't care who gets the credit. They really are a good bunch of kids, and they are working hard…hopefully for the same goal."
